Design Fundamentals
typography

For the Typography project, I used Adobe InDesign to experiment with different aspects of fonts, typefaces, type styles, and typesizes.
For Assignment 1, I identified fonts, sizes, and styles that demonstrated a) large X-height in relation to the capital letters; b) excessive variation between thick and thin strokes; c) all-capital letters being less legible and taking up more space; d) reduced legibility of bold type; e) reduced legibility of italics compared with roman letters; f) difficult discrimination with too small type; and g) reduced ability to read smoothly with too-large type.
For Assignment 2, I created five abstract compositions using different typefaces, styles, and sizes. The images demonstrate the Gestalt principles of closure, figure/ground relationship, continuation and symmetry.
